I’m Suzanne Sussex the author of the Safe Zone series. I first started writing in 2016 after a debate with my boyfriend about what to do in a zombie apocalypse. My answer is to hole up and hope for the best. His answer; re-join the army and fight the good fight… leaving me behind.
As a massive fan of zombie films and books, this debate sparked an idea and with it the Safe Zone series was born.
I was born and raised in Hampshire, England and I’m lucky enough to have had an opportunity through my day job in banking to move around the country. I eventually settled in North Wales; just on the Welsh/ English border. I lives with my boyfriend, and neurotic cat Daisy.
When I’m not writing or working, (or arguing about apocalypse plans) I can usually be found running or walking around the Welsh countryside. Training for some crazy long distance event
It’s women in Horror month and my first choice is the goth queen, Rhiannon Frater! I will not start counting up all her books, because there are allot, check out her Amazon page! I know that I make a big deal of my page being a zombie page, but I adore all her vampire series so much. Not only that the historical research is on point, but the action scenes are awesome, fast paced and captivating.
I will just say that her work is special. It is the type of story that stays with you, in your heart and mind. Rhiannons characters are very realistic, even if you don’t like them, they make sense. She touches so many aspects of zompoc and horror, it is absolutely fascinating and amazing to be privileged to enter the universe of Rhiannon Frater. Her zombies are old fashioned zombies and evolved zombies, she approaches the Zombie story from so many different angles in a way that most authors would never have the courage too. I had the pleasure to do a live interview with her, and she’s not only a amazing author but also a very fun conversation partner.. Between the two of us we talked for about 2 hours and still had so much to say! I am a fan. If you search for great horror, you find something you like on her page!

Convoy of Carnage is the first book of what was to become a successful apocalyptic Zombie saga. The focus of the Zombie Road series is not on the evil and the darkness, it’s on the way a rough diamond can shine bright when it’s put under pressure. The outbreak shows that people have a heart of gold no matter if there’s some motor oil and dirt under their fingernails. The outbreak shows how people from different layers of society can work together and grow as one. We see the beginnings of Bridget that is to become a action here…she used to be a scared movie starlet that was going crazy with fear when she saw her first Zombie. It’s about Gunny and the guys from the truck stop. It’s about his wife Lacy that is a real badass b**$tch even do she works a white collar job at a successful international company. I think that so many of us love this series is because it’s about what ordinary people can do…there’s something extraordinary in all of us! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7ZHNEL/ref=series_rw_dp_sw?fbclid=IwAR2EiikqywN9OlQQnaaFzTXX1gZ8C6F3jstSDxbNef50Jgi9Zxmr-Rtbxn4
Please forgive me if I sound less like The Zombie Queen and more like a fan girl, but when I start talking about Mark Tufo I am a fan! Zombie Fallout was the first zombie series that I picked up totally by accident and I was in love with the genre. Mark Tufo has such a incredible style and humor in describing the Zombie apocalypse, you have to love it and laugh with tears sometimes. The moment when his main character stepped into dog poop, but still saves Henry, the dog that we all end up loving and caring for during the series, I knew that I will buy each and every book and read it. Someone said the Mark Tufo is like The Goodfather of indie zompoc, and I like the sound of it. But we can’t reduce Mark to Zombie lit only, he has a awesome Scifi series called Indian hill and his new series Demon Fallout and Lycan Fallout are breaching the limit between indie horror and classic dark fantasy. OK, I fangirled enough. Grab a Mark Tufo book, now!!!
I started reading Hellspawn a few years ago. And while English is not my first language, expressions like “rat arsed” used to be way above my understanding. This remains a joke with Ricky Fleet.. I love this series, why do I love it? Because Ricky Fleet writes about normal people in the Zombie apocalypse. He uses slow Romero type zombies, and each story is a step into a new captivating universe. Check it out!
Picture this: you’re sitting in a bar minding your own business, having a quiet drink or two, when trouble steps in off the street. A shambling wreck stumbles over the threshold, bloodied clothes torn, muttering incoherently. Just another idiot who doesn’t know when enough is too much. You raise your glass, take another slug. It’s okay, security can handle it.
But then over by the juke box a woman screams, a man swears loudly. You look up to see the barman drop the pint he’s pouring and back off, pale and shivering. Maybe you should turn around and take a closer look…
Then the world goes crazy. Before you know it, you’re shoulder to shoulder with security, fighting a wave of undead. Someone throws you a cue – a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘killer pool.’ When it’s over, there’s only four of you left; you, two hard men and the terrified girl you find hiding beneath the corpse of her boyfriend.
So begins the story of a new kind of world; where the dead are far more ambulant than they should be, and the living must walk amongst them, fighting to survive.
